I have a Comcast Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD DVR comes with a SATA port (you can connect a SATA drive to it for more space). I want to copy recorded programs from DVR to a USB drive. What is the easiest way to do this?:
I could get a SATA drive, but it is expensive, and after I finished copying the programs to it, I'm not sure I could connect it to my computer.
This program Comcast DVR store encrypted or unencrypted? If I copy the programs to another device, do they understand? I want to play copied programs using VLC, so I need them to be clear.
The manual for the DVR (and Comcast's own site), instructions on how to copy programs to VCR DVR (using standard RCA cables), so I do not think people are opposed to keeping the recorded programs on a permanent basis, the more I think I have the legal right to do so.
My problem is more general programs from digital cable in an encrypted format on a USB drive. I would appreciate any other thoughts. I tried with both Cirage and Archos DVR, but can not seem to work fine. However, I could have gotten hurt boxes, the older versions, etc. If you or someone recommends, I will give them another shot....
